Fable Reveals New Quest Gameplay at Gamescom 2026 Ahead of February 2027 Launch

August 26, 2026

Playground Games has unveiled a new gameplay demo of Fable, giving players a closer look at the game's quests, combat, dialogue choices and the bustling world of Bowerstone. The long-awaited RPG is set to launch on February 23, 2027.

A new quest takes players through Bowerstone

The demo follows an early quest in which the player searches for the Heroes Guild after a mysterious hero in a red cloak turns their grandmother and an entire village to stone. The Guild itself has been locked, but after obtaining a key, the player eventually comes face-to-face with Humphrey the Golden, its legendary guild master.

The next step is to recover the Guild deeds from Ronny and her gang, the Slicks. Getting through the quest isn't always about fighting, either. Players can use dialogue, make deals or even pay their way past certain obstacles. Even seemingly small decisions can influence reputation and change how characters react to the protagonist.

Bowerstone feels like a living city

One of the biggest focuses of the demo is Bowerstone itself. Playground Games says the city is home to more than 400 voiced NPCs, with characters having their own jobs, hobbies, families, homes and daily routines. The city also contains more than 130 homes and over 30 businesses, all of which can be entered, while properties can also be purchased.

The protagonist already has a life of their own in the demo, having bought a home, married Elliot and started a family with their daughter, Daisy. Characters such as Elliot aren't simply there to fill the world, either; they have their own routines and memories, helping make Bowerstone feel more like a functioning community.

Combat mixes weapons, spells and progression

Combat combines traditional weapons with spells, abilities and upgrades. During the demo, the player spends a skill point on Blades, a spell designed to deal with groups of enemies. Weapons can also be expanded with new combos and abilities using magical gems known as Willstones, which can be discovered throughout the world. The demo was played on Legend difficulty, one of the game's tougher settings, showcasing the importance of adapting the player's abilities and equipment to different encounters. As the adventure progresses, players will gain access to new spells, weapons, abilities and upgrades.

Your choices shape your reputation

Fable's choices aren't limited to major story decisions. Smaller interactions can also influence the protagonist's reputation and affect how people around them respond. The game also features systems tied to appearance customization and the local economy, giving players additional ways to shape their character and the world around them.

Fable launches on February 23, 2027. The latest gameplay demo was presented during Gamescom 2026, offering one of the clearest looks yet at how Playground Games is bringing its version of Albion to life.
