007 First Light: Launch Trailer and Release Details Revealed

The Origin Story and Cast

In this new take on the iconic spy, James Bond (portrayed by Patrick Gibson) enters the world of espionage after catching MI6's attention during a tense situation in Iceland. While backed by M (Priyanga Burford), Bond's instinctive and improvisational style immediately clashes with John Greenway (Lennie James), a hardline training instructor and former 00 agent. The plot kicks into gear when the rogue return of 009 forces Bond on a global pursuit, taking him from the Carpathian Mountains to the black markets of Aleph, and eventually facing off against the unpredictable Bawma (Lenny Kravitz).

Gameplay Mechanics and Core Systems

True to IO Interactive's signature design, 007 First Light emphasizes player freedom and creativity, allowing objectives to be tackled through stealth, direct action, or a mix of both. The core gameplay relies on four distinct pillars:

  • Spycraft: Focuses on observation, letting players eavesdrop on conversations, pickpocket essential items, and find environmental clues to open new paths.
  • Bond’s Instinct: A versatile tool used to lure enemies, bluff out of suspicious situations, or enhance focus during combat.
  • Q Branch Gadgets: Expands tactical choices by providing tools for hacking, lock cutting, creating distractions, and performing quiet takedowns.
  • Fluid Combat: When cover is blown, the game transitions into fast-paced close-quarters takedowns and ranged gunplay that scales up to Bond's lethal Licence to Kill.

Endgame Content: Tactical Simulation (TacSim)

To ensure replayability beyond the main campaign, the game includes a dedicated, replay-focused mode called Tactical Simulation (TacSim), set within a secret MI6 facility. Launching initially with the first two missions—and fully unlocking after completing the story—TacSim challenges players with gameplay modifiers, scored missions, and progression-driven unlocks designed to encourage experimentation and mastery.

007 First Light is releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, on Amazon.com, as well as for PC on Steam and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow later this Summer 2026. 007 First Light is available in Standard, Deluxe, Collector’s, and Legacy Editions.

🔴Xbox Game Pass Availability

For players wondering about its availability on subscription services, 007 First Light will not be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch. IO Interactive is releasing the game as a traditional premium title across all platforms. While previous titles from the developer have eventually joined the Game Pass catalog down the line, players looking to dive into Bond's new origin story on May 27th will need to purchase a standalone copy on Xbox, PC, or PlayStation platforms.
