Liga MX Reportedly Signs Multi-Year Licensing Deal with Electronic Arts
Multiple sources are reporting that Liga MX has officially signed a new partnership with EA Sports. This arrangement ensures the inclusion of the Mexican top-flight league, featuring its official clubs, kits, and branding, in upcoming EA Sports football titles. The newly established agreement reportedly runs through June 2029, securing a long-term presence for Mexican football within EA's global gaming ecosystem.
🟢Background: The Move to Konami and Absence from EA
This deal marks a major turning point for the franchise, as Liga MX has been completely absent from Electronic Arts games since the release of FIFA 23. In February 2022, after a 17-year relationship with EA Sports, the Mexican league shook up the sports gaming industry by signing an exclusive multi-year partnership with Konami to bring its official license to eFootball (formerly known as Pro Evolution Soccer).
As a result of that exclusivity deal, EA Sports lost the rights to use the official logos, kits, and league branding. While individual club deals initially kept some presence in the game, pressure from the league eventually led to a total absence of official Liga MX integration in recent titles, such as EA Sports FC 24, EA Sports FC 25, and EA Sports FC 26.
However, recent updates indicated that Konami's exclusive rights over the Mexican league came to an end, opening the door for Electronic Arts to reclaim one of its most valuable regional licenses. Further details regarding the specific implementation of the league in upcoming EA Sports titles are expected to be shared in the coming months.
