No Man’s Sky COSMOS 7.0 Update Adds Space Stations, Galactic Alliances and Deep-Space Exploration

September 09, 2026

Hello Games has released COSMOS, the major 7.0 update for No Man’s Sky. The new update dramatically expands the game's space gameplay with player-directed Space Stations, Galactic Alliances, orbital bases, new deep-space locations, spacewalking and large derelict hulks to explore. COSMOS also celebrates 10 years of No Man’s Sky with a special expedition that takes players through the history of the game, while introducing a substantial collection of visual, rendering and performance improvements.

⭐COSMOS 7.0 Main Features

Feature What It Adds
Space Station Directorship Become the director of a Space Station and customise its interior, exterior and additional rooms.
Galactic Alliances Create or join alliances, coordinate exploration and compete through alliance leaderboards.
Orbital Bases Build your own base anywhere in deep space, including on natural asteroid platforms.
Deep-Space Exploration Explore asteroid belts, ice fields, outposts, debris fields, asteroid platforms and other points of interest.
Derelict Hulks Board enormous abandoned vessels, recover valuable technology and salvage their components before their structural integrity fails.
Spacewalking Leave your spacecraft and freely explore deep space with six degrees of freedom, including rolling.
Tractor Beam Corvette-class ships can use a new Tractor Beam to collect physical salvage and minerals.
10th Anniversary Expedition Our Journey Continues revisits major moments from No Man’s Sky's history and offers exclusive nostalgic rewards.
DLSS 4.5 & XeSS 3 Adds NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with 5x and 6x Frame Generation, plus Intel XeSS 3 support.
Visual Improvements Improved terrain detail, clouds, water, fog, particles, lighting, asteroids and atmospheric effects.
Performance Improvements Numerous CPU, memory, loading, animation and base-processing optimisations improve overall performance.

✅Take Control of a Space Station

One of the biggest additions in COSMOS is the ability to become a Space Station Director. Players can customise the station's central lobby, add additional rooms and decorate the exterior using a large collection of new station parts.

Station directors can also remove and adjust existing decorations, making stations highly personalised hubs rather than simply places to visit.

✅Explore a New Layer of Deep Space

COSMOS introduces a dedicated local star system map accessible from the Quick Menu. The map displays planets, Space Stations and new deep-space points of interest.

New locations include asteroid belts, ice fields, abandoned and infested outposts, debris fields, asteroid platforms, and procedurally generated space hulks. Many of these locations can be mined or salvaged for valuable resources.

✅Salvage Massive Derelict Hulks

Colossal shipwrecks are scattered throughout deep space, offering valuable technology and industrial salvage. However, exploring them comes with a risk: damaging their structural integrity can trigger a dangerous chain reaction.

Corvette-class ships can also be equipped with a new Tractor Beam to collect physical cargo and resources recovered during these operations.

✅Build Your Own Orbital Base

Players can now establish completely free-floating bases in space. Orbital construction allows Travellers to claim empty volumes of space or use natural asteroid platforms as the foundation for their creations.

The update also introduces new corridor pieces and hundreds of additional decorative station parts that can be unlocked through the Construction Research Terminal aboard the Space Anomaly.

✅Galactic Alliances

COSMOS adds a new social system built around Galactic Alliances. Station directors can create their own alliance and invite other Travellers to join.

Players can belong to up to three alliances, with the most active and largest groups appearing on leaderboards at Space Station cores.

✅Spacewalking Comes to No Man’s Sky

All pilots can now leave their spacecraft while in space through the Quick Menu. Spacewalking has also been expanded with true six-degree-of-freedom movement, including the ability to roll while travelling through zero gravity.

The new system is particularly important when exploring derelict hulks and other deep-space locations where players must move around outside their ships.

✅Major Visual and Performance Improvements

COSMOS also delivers a significant technical upgrade. Hello Games has improved terrain tessellation, planetary clouds, water, fog, particles, lighting and asteroid generation.

The update adds NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, including 5x and 6x Frame Generation, as well as Intel XeSS 3. PC VR players also receive support for foveated rendering using eye tracking.

Numerous optimisation improvements target CPU usage, memory management, loading times, animations, procedural generation and complex player bases. Hello Games has also implemented asynchronous base updates to reduce frame-rate hitches in large builds.

✅No Man’s Sky Continues to Evolve

With COSMOS, Hello Games has once again expanded No Man’s Sky well beyond its original scope. The 7.0 update adds an entirely new layer of space exploration while giving players more control over Space Stations, orbital construction and multiplayer alliances. No Man’s Sky COSMOS 7.0 is now available as a free update for existing players.
