EA Sports has unveiled the final gameplay adjustments for FC 27 following closed beta feedback, with sweeping changes to Lengthy players, Team Press, physical defending, and Player Lock mechanics. The developer has also confirmed it will avoid significant balance changes in early Title Updates, opting instead to let the meta develop naturally after launch.
ðŸ‘No Major Balance Changes in Early Title Updates
In a notable departure from previous years, EA Sports stated it does not plan to implement significant gameplay balance adjustments in FC 27's early Title Updates. The decision reflects a desire to let players discover the game's mechanics and meta organically rather than reacting to early trends. "We intend to preserve the gameplay experience we've built for launch and give players time to learn and adapt to it," the company explained. Bug fixes and corrections for unintended behaviours will still be deployed, though EA acknowledges that addressing issues like goalkeeper AI could inadvertently affect broader gameplay balance.
ðŸƒLengthy Players and AcceleRATE Profiles Receive Major Tuning
Lengthy players' dominance emerged as one of the most prominent concerns from the FC 27 closed beta, and EA has responded with a series of targeted changes. The overall impact of AcceleRATE profiles on running performance has been reduced, narrowing the gap between Explosive, Controlled, and Lengthy player types. This change places greater weight on a player's underlying Acceleration and Sprint Speed attributes rather than their AcceleRATE classification alone.
EA has also adjusted the height requirement for female players to qualify for the Lengthy profile, raising the threshold to 5'8" (172 cm). Additionally, Triggered Runs—which previously allowed Lengthy players to maintain speed over extended distances—now have a capped range, requiring players to trigger additional runs to sustain movement manually.
âš½Team Press Disabled in Defensive Third
Team Press has been significantly curtailed: the mechanic will no longer function while the ball is in your defensive third. EA found that players were using Team Press too close to their own goal, allowing AI teammates to automatically close down attackers and reduce the manual skill requirement in dangerous areas. The change forces defending players to take greater responsibility for applying pressure near their own box. When activated further up the pitch, defenders will still close down their marks but are now more vulnerable to passes played in behind the defensive line.
💪Physical Play and Bruiser PlayStyle Adjusted
Shoulder Challenges have been refined to reward proper positioning. The mechanic is now most effective when the defender is side-by-side with the ball carrier, while challenges attempted from behind have been made less reliable. To discourage input spamming, repeatedly pressing the Shoulder Challenge button while chasing an opponent will cause the defender to stick out an arm and lose speed. The Bruiser+ PlayStyle has also received a minor reduction in its effectiveness.
💻Player Lock, Dinked Passes, and Corner Kicks Refined
Player Lock now introduces a clearer risk-reward dynamic. When a user locks onto an off-ball player, the AI-controlled ball carrier will no longer automatically dribble around defenders—instead, they'll continue moving in their current direction. Passes made by the CPU during Player Lock have also been given increased error, requiring more deliberate input from the attacking player.
Dinked Passes, which are now fully manual in FC 27, can no longer be triggered using the Ground Pass input to prevent accidental activation. Players must double-tap Through Pass and manually aim the trajectory. EA also clarified that Corner Kicks now offer free movement without assistance toward the ball's landing point, meaning players must read the flight path and time their runs independently.
🧠CPU AI Refinements and Additional Changes
Authentic Gameplay is receiving targeted adjustments rather than a wholesale rework. EA is recalibrating difficulty progression across Professional, World Class, and Legendary; adjusting CPU slider thresholds such as Sliding Tackle Frequency; and refining AI behaviour in attack, 1v1 finishing, and defensive responses to through passes and triggered runs.
Feedback from The Grounds, Clubs, Career Mode, and PC continues to be reviewed, with further changes planned for future Title Updates. PC-specific improvements have been detailed in a separate deep dive, while Football Ultimate Team changes will be covered in an upcoming launch-focused blog. EA Sports FC 27 launches worldwide on September 25, 2026, with up to seven days of early access for Ultimate Plus and Ultimate Edition purchasers.
