The Raiders started strongly after forcing a turnover on downs at midfield, with Kirk Cousins finding Ian Thomas for a 27-yard touchdown. Kansas City answered with a long, 10-play drive finished by Patrick Mahomes and Tyquan Thornton.
Las Vegas controlled much of the second quarter and took a 13-10 lead into halftime after three Matt Gay field goals. Kansas City struggled to finish drives, but remained within striking distance.
The game exploded in the fourth quarter. Thornton caught his second touchdown of the afternoon to put the Chiefs ahead 17-13, but the Raiders answered with another field goal. Kansas City then turned to Kenneth Walker III, who scored twice in quick succession, including a 22-yard run, to build a 30-19 advantage.
Las Vegas refused to go away. Cousins connected with Brock Bowers for a 20-yard touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion, cutting the deficit to 30-27 with 1:46 remaining.
The Raiders got one final opportunity after recovering the ball, but Cousins was intercepted by Xavier Nwankpa with only 10 seconds left. Mahomes took a knee to seal a thrilling victory for Kansas City.
The Chiefs move to 4-0, while the Raiders fall to 3-1.
