NBA THE RUN, the new 3v3 street basketball game from Play by Play Studios in partnership with the NBA and NBPA, is out today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game is priced at $29.99 and launches with full cross-play support across all platforms.Â
Developed by Play by Play Studios in collaboration with the National Basketball Players Association, the game focuses on fast-paced streetball built around online knockout competition and stylized courts inspired by real-world locations.
Run the World Tournament
“Run the World Tournament†is a four-round knockout competition in which three-player squads face off on streetball courts around the globe, including Venice Beach and The Tenement in the Philippines. Each round introduces a randomized ruleset, requiring teams to adjust tactics between matches.
Teams that advance through the bracket reach a final championship game held on one of several dedicated courts, competing for the Run the World trophy and in-game bragging rights.
Game Modes at Launch
NBA THE RUN launches with three competitive modes alongside a practice space:
- Knockout Squads: Three-player teams where each user controls one athlete, joining friends or matchmaking with other players.
- Knockout Solos: Players build and control their own full three-player squad in head-to-head online matches.
- Knockout Friends: Private tournaments supporting up to 48 players, playable solo against AI, in co-op, or in custom matchups with invited players.
- Shootaround Court: A practice area for testing timing, movement, and shooting mechanics with different ballers.
Roster and Online Play
The game features more than 30 NBA athletes alongside five fictional streetball legends, each offering distinct playstyles. Matches emphasize speed, responsiveness, and physical play on both ends of the court.
Online gameplay uses rollback netcode, designed to keep actions like dribbling, collisions, and alley-oops synchronized in real time across all players.
Editions and Content
Two editions are available at launch:
- Standard Edition – $29.99
- Deluxe Edition – $39.99
The Deluxe Edition includes three Rookie Variants: Stephen Curry (2009 Golden State Warriors), Luka DonÄić (2018 Dallas Mavericks), and Kevin Durant (2007 Seattle SuperSonics), plus 1,000 CRED, the in-game currency used for cosmetic items such as jerseys, dunk animations, taunts, badges, and banners.

The developer confirmed that NBA THE RUN will continue receiving post-launch updates, including additional players, courts, rulesets, game modes, and unlockable content.
