GTA VI: No PC Version at Launch

POSTED May 08, 2026
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will follow its traditional release strategy, launching exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. As of now, there is no mention of a PC version or a release window for its arrival on that platform.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the decision in a recent interview, clarifying that it isn't due to a platform exclusivity deal. Instead, it’s a matter of philosophy: "Rockstar has historically gone first to console," Zelnick stated. He explained that for a blockbuster of this scale, the priority is to serve the "core consumer" on consoles first to ensure a perfect launch.

Key Highlights

  • A Proven Strategy: This follows the pattern of previous hits like GTA V (which took 18 months to reach PC) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (one year later).

  • The Weight of PC: Despite the delay, Zelnick admitted the PC market is no longer secondary, noting that while it represented 5% of sales in 2007, it now accounts for 45% to 50% of a major title's revenue.

  • Why the wait? By focusing solely on consoles at launch, Rockstar aims to deliver an impeccable experience for the "center of gravity" of their initial player base before tackling the technical complexities of a PC port.

For now, PC players will have to wait for an official announcement, likely well into 2027, to join the streets of Leonida.

The expectations for Grand Theft Auto VI are record-breaking, and the numbers behind the franchise explain why

  • A Massive Legacy: GTA V has sold over 225 million copies, standing as the second best-selling game in history (only behind Minecraft).

  • A Decade in the Making: The new installment has been in development for over eight years, involving thousands of Rockstar employees. It is projected to be one of the most expensive entertainment products ever created.

  • Day-One Projections: While selling 10 million units would be a massive success for any other studio, analysts expect GTA VI to move over 25 million units on its first day.

  • The Cost of Quality: CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that despite the rise of AI, development costs continue to climb. Take-Two’s strategy remains a high-stakes, high-cost model focused on delivering a "high-quality blockbuster" regardless of the price tag.
