Rockstar Left GTA V's Story Behind, and This 192GB Leak Shows What We Lost

September 19, 2026

A huge 192GB archive of Rockstar Games development data is making the rounds online, revealing canceled GTA V projects, unused story content, a planned Liberty City expansion and early GTA 6 assets. But perhaps the biggest takeaway is not what it tells us about GTA 6. It is what it shows about the GTA V that never happened.

🔎 This Isn't a New Rockstar Hack

First, there is an important distinction. The 192GB archive does not appear to come from a new Rockstar breach. According to reports, the files originate from the company's 2022 security breach, the same incident that exposed the infamous early GTA 6 footage. Much of this material reportedly circulated privately for years before becoming widely accessible, offering a new look at projects and ideas that had remained hidden inside Rockstar's development history.

🗽 Liberty City Was Planned for GTA V

One of the biggest discoveries in the leak is evidence of a cancelled Liberty City project for GTA V, reportedly known internally as LibertyV. According to the leaked material, files from the project have been loaded into CodeWalker to reconstruct parts of the planned map. The resulting outline reportedly suggests a version of Liberty City that could have been considerably larger than the city featured in GTA IV, while additional terrain-testing data provides further evidence that Rockstar explored the idea in some depth. Considering that GTA V already featured one of Rockstar's largest open worlds, the reported plans for another major city would have represented a substantial expansion of the game's single-player experience. There is currently no evidence in the leak that the Liberty City project is being revived for GTA 6. Any connection between this cancelled project and potential future GTA 6 content remains speculation.

🕵️ Agent Trevor Was Much More Than a Name

The leak also reportedly provides a much clearer picture of Agent Trevor, one of the cancelled single-player expansions planned for GTA V. The leaked material reportedly includes mission names and environments connected to CIA, Korean, Russian, Middle Eastern and space-related storylines. Among the assets reportedly uncovered are a spaceship, spacesuits, an Arab mansion and a huge underground facility, suggesting an expansion that could have taken Trevor's story in some very unexpected directions. The leak also reportedly contains unused dialogue from an earlier version of GTA V's ending in which Trevor would have crashed into a tank of liquid nitrogen, freezing and ultimately shattering instead of meeting his fate in the oil-tanker sequence used in the final game.

🎬 There Was Much More Story Content

Liberty City and Agent Trevor are only part of what the leak reportedly contains. The archive reportedly includes unused dialogue involving Brucie and Franklin, additional cut missions, beta vehicles and other story-related material that never made it into the final version of GTA V. Taken together, the leaked material points to a much more ambitious post-launch plan for GTA V than the one players ultimately received, with several different story directions apparently explored before being abandoned.

💰 The GTA Online Question

GTA V launched with a substantial single-player campaign, but Rockstar's post-launch support increasingly shifted toward GTA Online. The leaked material indicates that major story expansions and additional single-player projects were being explored, only for those plans to ultimately disappear. That contrast has naturally reignited the debate over what GTA V could have become with continued investment in traditional story expansions. The leak does not establish that GTA Online was directly responsible for the cancellation of these projects, but it does reveal how much single-player content Rockstar had considered before the game's long-term support took a different direction.

🗺️ A 2014/2015 GTA 6 Map Is Now Playable in GTA V

Perhaps the most surprising discovery is that the leak reportedly contains a 2014/2015 build of the GTA 6 map that can now be made playable inside GTA V. This is an extremely early version of GTA 6 and is obviously not representative of the game Rockstar is preparing to release in 2026. However, being able to explore an actual development build offers a fascinating look at how the game's world was taking shape more than a decade ago. The leaked material reportedly includes map data that can be brought into GTA V, allowing players to explore parts of an early GTA 6 world rather than simply looking at screenshots or static development assets. It is also important not to confuse this with Rockstar's current plans. The existence of an early playable build does not indicate that these locations, layouts or concepts will appear in the final game.

Discovery What the leak reportedly shows
LibertyV A canceled Liberty City project for GTA V, including a large map outline and terrain data
Agent Trevor Story missions, environments and assets from a canceled single-player expansion
Cut Story Content Unused dialogue, missions and alternate versions of GTA V scenes
Beta Vehicles Vehicles and other development assets removed from the final game
Early GTA 6 Map A reported 2014/2015 development build that can now be explored in GTA V

📖 The GTA V We Never Got

Perhaps the most fascinating part of the leak is that it shifts the conversation away from GTA 6 for a moment. After more than a decade of GTA V updates, it is easy to forget how many different directions Rockstar reportedly considered for the game. Liberty City, Agent Trevor, additional missions, alternative storylines and unused characters point toward a very different future for GTA V. Much of that material ultimately remained buried in Rockstar's development archives, while the final game followed a very different post-launch path. What the leak ultimately reveals is that GTA V had a huge amount of story content and ideas that never reached players. And after seeing just how much Rockstar was apparently building behind the scenes, the biggest question may not be what this leak tells us about GTA 6, but what GTA V could have become if more of those plans had survived development.
