Development on SP Football Life 2027 is progressing, with
Smokepatch confirming a series of competition structure changes that
have been implemented, tested, and verified in Career Mode. The current
target release window is early November 2026. The update brings several
domestic and international competitions closer to their current
real-world formats, including expanded World Cup and Copa America
structures and updated league formats in Europe and South America.
⚽World Cup and Copa America Updated
The World Cup will now use the 48-team format introduced for the 2026 tournament. It will feature 12 groups of four teams, with the 24 group-stage qualifiers joined by the eight best third-placed teams to form the 32-team knockout stage. Copa America has also been restructured around 16 teams. The tournament will consist of four groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the eight-team knockout stage.

🇫🇷France, 🇧🇪Belgium, 🇦🇷Argentina and 🇺🇸MLS Receive Format Changes
Several domestic competitions have also been updated to match their latest structures:
- France: Ligue 2 now has 18 teams, while the Coupe de France has been restructured to feature 36 teams from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
- Belgium: The 2026/27 league format now features 18 teams playing 34 home-and-away matches, replacing the previous playoff system.
- Argentina: The league and cup now use a 30-team format, with the season starting in winter. The previous 26-team league and 24-team cup limitations have been removed.
- MLS: All 30 teams are now included for the new season, rather than using the previous structure.
🏆UEFA Changes Still in Development
Not every planned competition update is ready for release. Smokepatch says the new UEFA competition formats are still being worked on and require more time before they can be considered stable.
The team also has additional features on its wishlist, including more teams and leagues for future versions.
All of the confirmed structural changes are built directly into the game, without the need for external scripts. Smokepatch will also determine whether changes can be applied to an existing Career Mode based on their potential impact: features that do not affect an ongoing career can be included in updates, while changes requiring a new save will be clearly noted. Changes that could damage an existing save will be postponed to a new-season version.
With the major confirmed competition changes now stable, Football Life 2027 is currently targeting an early November 2026 release.
