EA Sports chief executive Andrew Wilson revealed in an interview that the company's sports titles - including FIFA - could become a subscription service. This will suppose an incredible change in how FIFA games are distributed.
A subscription to FIFA will mean that instead of buying a new FIFA every year you will buy a subscription to the game every year to get the updates related to the new season. So you will be playing the same FIFA, of course with upgrades, patches, etc, but basically the same game.
"There's a world where it gets easier and easier to move that code around where we may not have to do an annual release. We can really think about those games as a 365-day, live service." said Andrew Wilson.
For instance, you will be paying a 5 USD subscription to the game monthly like you do for RFactor or World of Warcraft. That seems to be the idea that Electronic Arts is working on.Â
When could this be implemented? Well, surely not for FIFA 19. "There are a few things that have got to happen first before moving to a subscription model" Wilson said.
What do you think?
